Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living—bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting—with dignity and respect
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Take and record vital signs and report any changes in condition to the nursing team promptly
- Provide compassionate companionship and engage residents in meaningful activity
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the resident record
- Follow infection prevention protocols and maintain a clean, safe environment
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists and families to help achieve resident care goals
- Observe and report behavioral or medical changes to ensure high-quality care
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or completion of an approved GNA program
- State-required certification or registration for nursing assistants (where applicable)
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) preferred or willing to obtain
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Comfortable with physical demands of patient care and transfers
- Compassionate attitude with a commitment to resident-centered care
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Completion of an accredited GNA/CNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Foundational knowledge of geriatric care and common age-related conditions
- Ability to perform personal care tasks safely and respectfully
- Basic vital sign measurement and documentation skills
- Familiarity with infection control and patient safety practices
- Good interpersonal and observational skills
- Time management and the ability to prioritize tasks on busy shifts
- Comfortable using electronic or paper charting systems
- Teamwork mindset and clear communication with clinical staff
