Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, helping them feel safe and respected
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming)
- Measure and record vital signs and report changes to the nursing team promptly
- Support mobility and safe transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Maintain clear, timely documentation of care and resident interactions
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Help create a warm, engaging environment by supporting activities and social interaction
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent required
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Ability to pass background check and required health screenings
- Comfortable working the posted day shift (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM) and reliable attendance
- Strong interpersonal skills and a respectful, resident-first attitude
Education
- Completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant program or equivalent; High school diploma or GED preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient-centered care and basic geriatric needs
- Vital signs, basic clinical observations, and infection control practices
- Assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and safe patient handling
- Clear verbal and written communication for handoffs and documentation
- Teamwork, time management, and attention to detail in a long-term care setting
- Basic familiarity with electronic charting or willingness to learn
