Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts (start times vary: 7:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 5:00 PM, 7:00 PM); every-other-weekend requirement; coverage includes one major and one minor holiday during winter and summer. Day shift focus, 12-hour format.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency care across fast track and main ER areas, managing a broad caseload from pediatric to adult patients
- Assess, triage, and stabilize patients with urgent needs including STEMI, stroke, sepsis, trauma (non-trauma assignment for travelers), and behavioral health holds
- Collaborate with physicians, mid-levels, RTs, tele-psych, and crisis teams to create timely care plans
- Perform ED-specific skills: phlebotomy, telemetry strip interpretation, timely boluses for pediatrics and adults, and troubleshoot ventilators when needed
- Document accurately in Cerner FirstNet and communicate changes in condition to the care team
- Maintain safe patient ratios (typically 4:1) while prioritizing critical needs and patient safety
- Support flow in a very busy, high-volume ED environment — adapt quickly and keep calm under pressure
- Participate in unit culture improvement efforts and model positive teamwork and professionalism
Qualifications
- Active RN licensure (eligible to practice in CA) — License to submit required
- Minimum 3 years of relevant Emergency Nursing experience preferred
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS and NIHSS certifications required
- Hands-on experience with Cerner (FirstNet) charting strongly preferred
- Comfortable interpreting telemetry and basic ventilator troubleshooting
- Experience with pediatric and adult emergency care, including STEMI and stroke protocols
- Ability to work every-other-weekend and cover assigned holidays
Education
- Nursing degree (ADN/ADN-equivalent or BSN) — BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong triage, assessment and rapid decision-making skills in a high-acuity ED
- Proficient with Cerner FirstNet electronic medical records
- Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
- Familiarity with emergency protocols for stroke, STEMI, sepsis and trauma management
- Phlebotomy skills in the ED context and effective IV/med administration
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with fluctuating patient census
