Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care for step-down/PCU patients in a Level 1 trauma center
- Manage advanced devices and procedures such as ventilators, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and bedside bronchs
- Perform safe medication administration and manage IV and feeding pump therapies
- Monitor and respond quickly to changes in patient condition, escalating as appropriate
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—physicians, techs, and charge nurses—to deliver coordinated care
- Utilize Meditech EMR to document patient care accurately and communicate plans effectively
- Support unit workflows including admission, transfer, and discharge processes for complex patients
- Contribute to a team environment by mentoring colleagues and participating in unit initiatives
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential (state license or compact as required)
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care nursing experience (PCU/Step-Down, trauma experience a plus)
- Current BLS certification (required)
- ACLS certification preferred
- Experience managing chest tubes, tracheostomies, suction, and ventilator/feeding pump care
- Comfort working with complex, high-acuity trauma and step-down patients
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong skills in ventilator and tracheostomy management
- Proficiency with chest tube care and suction techniques
- Experience with IV pump and feeding pump management
- Familiarity with Wound VACs and specialty beds
- Comfort using Meditech EMR for documentation and orders
- Ability to work effectively on a high-acuity, team-oriented trauma unit
- Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize care in a fast-paced environment
