Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing function using evidence-based evaluations
- Develop individualized treatment plans that target meaningful functional outcomes
- Implement therapy interventions across individual and group settings to maximize patient independence
- Monitor progress, adjust plans as needed, and clearly document outcomes in the medical record
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy colleagues, and families to coordinate comprehensive care
- Provide counseling and caregiver training to support carryover and safe swallowing
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality improvement and discharge planning
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for support staff when needed
Qualifications
- Current Massachusetts SLP license required
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (see Education section)
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred but not required; state licensure is essential
- Experience in rehab, extended care, or acute settings preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Strong clinical documentation skills and familiarity with outcome-driven care
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Knowledge & Skills
- Evaluation and treatment of dysphagia and cognitive-communication disorders
- Therapy planning for functional, patient-centered goals
- Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication strategies
- Skilled at clinical documentation, progress notes, and discharge summaries
- Ability to train and educate caregivers and interdisciplinary team members
- Comfortable working with adult/geriatric populations in a rehab/extended care setting
