Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert postoperative and critical care to surgical ICU patients, including vascular cases (CEA, fem-pop, EVAR), thoracic and abdominal surgeries
• Manage ventilators and advanced airway care, including collaboration with RT 24/7
• Interpret telemetry and EKG strips to recognize and respond to arrhythmias and acute changes
• Deliver one-to-one or one-to-two nursing care per patient acuity and unit ratios
• Perform line placements, manage CRRT and ECMO patients, and coordinate complex clinical interventions
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned (generally does not take primary patients but provides break relief)
• Collaborate with in-house hospitalists or intensivists and multidisciplinary teams for safe, timely patient care
• Document patient care accurately in Cerner and follow unit protocols and safety procedures

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to submit) — license required to be considered
• Minimum 2 years of recent ICU/SICU or critical care nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• Comfortable with telemetry/EKG interpretation and ventilator management
• Experience with postoperative vascular and complex surgical patients preferred
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, every-other-weekend rotation, and occasional floats

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing and surgical ICU workflow
• Ventilator management and advanced respiratory support (including coordination with RT)
• Telemetry and EKG strip interpretation
• Cerner EMR charting and documentation
• Postoperative vascular surgery care (CEA, fem-pop, EVAR)
• Management of CRRT and ECMO patients
• Ability to function as charge nurse and coordinate unit resources
• Strong assessment, prioritization, and communication skills in high-acuity settings
