Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric surgical oncology and PCU patients
- Administer chemotherapy and manage blood transfusions following unit protocols
- Manage complex IV therapies including insulin and heparin drips and IV antibiotics
- Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias; initiate appropriate dysrhythmia management
- Perform chest tube care and Emerson/PleurEvac management when required
- Follow strict infection prevention protocols and participate in fall-prevention efforts
- Document accurately and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (pharmacy, PT, respiratory, social work, rapid response) for optimal patient outcomes
- Assist with orientation and precepting when needed and float to other acute oncology units as required
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state-appropriate) required
- Minimum 2 years of clinical RN experience required; PCU experience required
- BLS, ACLS and NIHSS certifications required
- ONS Chemo certification preferred
- Proficiency with EPIC charting required
- Experience with telemetry monitoring, IV therapy, blood transfusions, and chemotherapy administration
- Comfort working night shifts and the ability to float to other acute care oncology units
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Chemotherapy administration and oncology patient care
- IV therapy management including insulin and heparin drips
- Chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac) and post-op surgical care
- Infection prevention protocols and fall risk mitigation
- Experience with Alaris infusion pumps, bladder scanners, B450/GE telemetry systems, and Stryker beds
- Strong EPIC documentation skills and interdisciplinary communication
