Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert neonatal nursing care in a Level III/IV NICU for preterm and term neonates
- Manage complex respiratory therapies including CPAP, BiPAP, high-frequency ventilation and oscillators
- Administer and manage IV therapy, blood and blood products safely and accurately
- Monitor and care for central lines and PICCs, and manage syringe pumps and feeding tubes
- Perform neonatal dosage calculations and administer emergency medications when needed
- Participate in high-risk deliveries and attend neonatal surgeries as part of the perioperative team
- Operate therapeutic hypothermia equipment (cooling/warming blankets) per protocol
- Collaborate with the dedicated Admit Nurse and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care
- Respond to acute events including cardioversion/defibrillation and rapid-response situations
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure (compact license accepted at Swedish facilities)
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience with NICU experience required (Level III experience minimum for auto-offers: 2 years Level III or 1 year Level IV) — managers will screen for exceptions
- BLS and NRP recommended (preferred)
- Experience with 1:2 patient ratios in neonatal critical care
- Comfort floating to nearby campuses or newborn/pediatric units when needed
- Familiarity with Epic charting system is preferred
- Ability to complete a 24-hour orientation and integrate into a high-acuity team
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced neonatal assessment and care for neonates 23–34+ weeks gestation
- Ventilator management: AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP and high-frequency modes/oscillators
- Central line and PICC care, IV therapy, and blood/blood products administration
- Feeding tube placement/management and gavage/breast/bottle feeding competencies
- Neonatal dosage calculations and medication administration safety
- Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) and perioperative neonatal care
- Familiarity with emergency interventions (cardioversion/defibrillation)
- Comfort working in large NICU settings (unit described as 77-bed with avg census ~50)
