Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert bedside care for neonates in a Level III/IV NICU, using evidence-based practices
- Manage complex respiratory support including CPAP, BiPAP, high-frequency ventilation and oscillators
- Administer blood and blood products safely and follow established transfusion protocols
- Perform central line/PICC care, IV therapy and manage syringe pumps accurately
- Calculate and administer neonatal medications with precision using neonatal dosage calculations
- Attend high-risk deliveries and provide immediate neonatal stabilization
- Support and assist during neonatal surgeries and collaborate with surgical teams
- Float to designated campuses as needed and adapt to different unit workflows while maintaining patient safety
- Communicate clearly with families and multidisciplinary teams to support optimal neonatal outcomes
Qualifications
- Active RN license (compact license accepted at Swedish facilities)
- Minimum 3 years of NICU experience, with Level III/IV NICU experience required (note: auto-offer hardstop may require Level III NICU ≥2 years or Level IV NICU ≥1 year)
- Current BLS required, NRP strongly preferred
- Experience with 1:2 patient ratios and complex neonatal patient populations (premature infants including 23-24 weeks gestation)
- Comfortable with floating between campuses and occasionally supporting Pediatrics/Newborn Nursery (infants only)
- Ability to attend high-risk deliveries and participate in emergent neonatal interventions
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP) and experience with high-frequency ventilators and oscillators
- Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling/warming blanket) and post-procedure monitoring
- Blood and blood product administration protocols and central line/PICC maintenance
- Feeding tube placement/management and neonatal feeding techniques (bottle, breast, gavage)
- Syringe pump operation and intravenous therapy expertise
- Neonatal medication/dosage calculations and emergency medication administration
- Familiarity with Epic charting system preferred and strong clinical documentation skills
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
