Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing and toileting
- Monitor resident condition and promptly report changes to nursing staff to ensure safety
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Document care accurately and timely to keep the care team informed and continuity strong
- Create a warm, respectful environment that preserves dignity and encourages resident independence
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists and family members to deliver person-centered care
Qualifications
- Valid GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) or equivalent state certification
- Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain quickly
- Ability to pass background check, TB screening and any required health screenings
- Comfortable with physical aspects of the role including lifting and assisted transfers
- Excellent communication skills and a gentle, patient approach to care
- Experience in long-term care or geriatrics is a plus but enthusiasm and a caring attitude matter
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification or completion of an approved nursing assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of activities of daily living (ADLs) and basic resident care
- Familiarity with infection control and safety protocols
- Skill in taking and reporting vital signs and observations
- Ability to document care clearly and accurately
- Teamwork, time management and strong interpersonal skills
- Basic understanding of mobility assistance and fall prevention techniques
