Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage complex neonatal patients in a Level III/IV NICU with skill and compassion
- Provide ventilator care including CPAP, BiPAP, high-frequency ventilation and oscillator support
- Administer and monitor blood and blood products safely and per protocol
- Perform central line and PICC care, IV therapy, and manage syringe pumps
- Assist and attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries as needed
- Perform neonatal dosage calculations and administer emergency medications when required
- Provide feeding tube placement/management and support for gavage/breast/bottle feedings
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (Respiratory, PT, Pharmacy, Social Work, Radiology) for coordinated care
- Document care in Epic and maintain accurate, timely charts consistent with unit standards
- Float to other campuses or units when requested (Issaquah, Edmonds, Pediatrics/NBN) while focusing on newborn/infant patient types
Qualifications
- Current RN licensure — Washington RN or active compact license accepted at Swedish facilities
- Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience with NICU exposure; hires require Level III NICU experience (≥2 years) or Level IV experience (≥1 year) for auto-offer screening
- BLS required; NRP preferred
- Comfortable with 1:2 patient ratios on days/nights and neonates across gestational ages (including 23–24 weeks)
- Experience with ventilator modes (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP) and advanced respiratory support
- Ability to perform neonatal dosage calculations and manage emergency interventions (cardioversion/defibrillation)
- Willingness to float to different campuses and adapt to unit needs
- Travel/contract candidates: Note — previous permanent employees of any Providence-affiliated facility must be separated from the health system for a minimum of 3 months to qualify
Knowledge & Skills
- Neonatal ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP, high-frequency vents, oscillators)
- Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling blanket) and warming blanket management
- Blood and blood product administration
- PICC/central line care and IV therapy
- Feeding tube placement and gavage/NG/NJ management
- Neonatal dosage calculations and emergency medication administration
- Cardioversion and defibrillation competency for neonates
- Syringe pump operation and infusion management
- Familiarity with Epic charting system (preferred)
- Ability to work with neonates across gestational ages (23–24 weeks through >34 weeks) and attend high-risk deliveries
