Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care to patients across acuity levels, focusing on safety and best practice
• Manage ventilators and respiratory equipment, adjusting settings per physician orders and patient response
• Perform patient assessments including airway management, oxygen therapy, and breathing treatments
• Interpret arterial blood gases and collaborate with the care team to optimize respiratory plans
• Document treatments, progress, and patient education clearly in the medical record
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and communicate changes in patient condition promptly
• Support infection control and equipment maintenance to promote a safe care environment

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia or ability to obtain state licensure promptly
• NBRC credential: RRT or CRT preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Minimum 1 year of clinical respiratory therapy experience preferred; acute care experience a plus
• Current immunizations and ability to pass background and health screenings required for facility onboarding
• Strong teamwork, communication skills, and a patient-centered mindset

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent from an accredited program
• NBRC certification recommended

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with adult ventilator management and non-invasive ventilation
• Airway management skills including suctioning and oxygen delivery techniques
• Ability to assess respiratory status and interpret ABGs
• Familiarity with respiratory equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
• Competence with EMR documentation and interdisciplinary communication
• Infection control practices and adherence to safety protocols
