Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts (days, nights, evenings, weekends) — schedule varies and requires full-time availability; call 1-2 days/week if any (overnight emergency or home call)

Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform thorough pre-operative physical exams and pre-op assessments to ensure safe surgical care
- Round on inpatients daily, managing a service census of patients and coordinating care plans
- Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and act decisively
- Assist in surgery as an intraoperative first assist and perform procedures such as removal of dialysis catheters
- Provide wound care and suture removal with attention to patient comfort and recovery
- Write prescriptions and manage medication plans in accordance with prescriptive authority
- Coordinate multidisciplinary care and communicate effectively with the surgical team, nursing, and consultants
- Document care clearly and efficiently in Epic to support continuity and quality outcomes
Qualifications
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with active state license or ability to obtain licensure in NY
- Prescriptive authority as applicable for the role
- Proven experience in inpatient care, preferably within a surgical service or similar acute setting
- Demonstrated competence with Epic (electronic medical record) for documentation and order entry
- Clinical experience with intraoperative first assist and procedural skills such as catheter removal and suture management
- Comfort working autonomously while collaborating with a supervising surgeon who will be present during assignment
- Willingness to work varied shifts including days, nights, evenings, weekends and take occasional home-based overnight call
- Ability to care for adult and geriatric patient populations
Education
- Graduate degree appropriate to role (NP or PA program completion) and national certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong assessment and diagnostic skills for acute surgical patients
- Procedural proficiency: intraoperative first assist, suture removal, line/catheter removal
- Excellent clinical documentation and order management in Epic
- Care coordination and discharge planning across multidisciplinary teams
- Good judgment in triage, escalation, and overnight emergency decision-making
- Effective patient and family communication, especially in perioperative counseling and follow-up
