Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the food service department across Berkshire Medical Center campuses to deliver high-quality food and service
- Coordinate food preparation for cafeteria, patient meals, room service and special functions as both manager and chef
- Supervise, coach and schedule food service staff, holding team members accountable to departmental standards
- Prepare menus and develop standardized recipes to ensure consistency and nutrition standards
- Oversee food production, inventory/purchasing and cafeteria/room service/catering operations
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policies and maintain food safety standards
- Approve vacation time and weekly payroll for food services staff and act as a visible role model of professionalism
- Resolve operational issues, confront problems constructively and maintain effective relationships across disciplines
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of cooking experience (required)
- 2+ years specializing in food preparation, sanitation, purchasing and managing food service operations (required)
- 4 years management/leadership experience in hospital, institutional or restaurant cooking (required)
- Current nutrition/food service supervisory or leadership experience (required)
- Food Service EMR or Nutrition Software experience (required) — please note experience on profile
- High school diploma (required)
- CSM or CFPP (Certified Dietary Manager / Certified Food Protection Professional) preferred
- ServSafe certification preferred
- Medical terminology coursework preferred
- Own reliable vehicle for travel to the facility (required for this assignment)
- Perm address required on profile; travelers residing within 50 miles of facility will not be considered
- 1 supervisory signed reference from within the past two years of employment (required)
Education
- High school diploma (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Staff supervision and leadership with a hands-on management style
- Menu planning, recipe standardization and menu development
- Food safety, sanitation and regulatory compliance expertise
- Food production, cafeteria, room service and catering operations
- Inventory, purchasing and payroll approval experience
- Experience with food service EMR and nutrition software
- Strong interpersonal communication and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Excellent organization and multi-tasking abilities
