Roles & Responsibilities
- Admit and manage patients on a busy inpatient service, handling admissions efficiently and compassionately
- Perform daily rounding and clinical decision-making to guide inpatient care and discharge planning
- Coordinate with nursing, case management, and consulting teams to ensure smooth transitions of care
- Document thoroughly and accurately in Cerner to maintain continuity and quality of care
- Communicate clearly with patients and families about diagnoses, plans, and expected next steps
- Respond to clinical changes promptly and escalate to ICU or specialty teams when appropriate (ICU closed to this service)
Qualifications
- MD or DO (or equivalent) required
- Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine preferred
- Active medical license in the state of practice or the ability to obtain licensure quickly
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Experience working as a hospitalist or in inpatient medicine; locum tenens experience a plus
- Comfortable with admitting, rounding, and using Cerner for documentation
Knowledge & Skills
- Proven inpatient clinical skills: admitting, rounding, discharge planning
- Strong documentation skills within Cerner electronic medical record
- Effective interdisciplinary communication and team-based care
- Time management and triage in a busy census (typical census 18–20 patients)
- Clinical judgment for general medicine patients with ability to recognize when escalation is needed
