Roles & Responsibilities
- Design and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that prioritize functional skills and independence
- Deliver engaging, differentiated instruction in an elementary self-contained classroom
- Monitor, document, and report student progress to families and the multidisciplinary team
- Create practical routines and supports that enable students to succeed across settings
- Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to meet caseload needs
- Maintain classroom management and positive behavior supports that foster a safe learning environment
Qualifications
- Experience working in Special Education and elementary self-contained settings (Functional Skills focus)
- Comfort managing a caseload and coordinating with families and support staff
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education preferred (state certification or eligibility)
- Strong classroom management and IEP development experience
- Clearances and district-mandated background checks as required
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of functional life skills instruction and individualized supports
- Proficiency with IEP development, progress monitoring, and documentation
- Behavior intervention strategies and positive behavior supports
- Ability to collaborate with paraeducators and multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication skills for family engagement and team coordination
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptations for diverse learners
