Roles & Responsibilities
- Design and deliver individualized lesson plans for an elementary self-contained Functional Skills program
- Implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to drive student progress
- Use data-driven instruction and ongoing assessments to adapt supports and measure growth
- Create a safe, structured, and welcoming classroom environment that fosters independence
- Collaborate with paraeducators, therapists, and the school team to coordinate services
- Communicate regularly and compassionately with families to celebrate progress and align goals
- Maintain clear documentation of student performance, progress notes, and required paperwork
Qualifications
- Valid teaching credential or certificate in Special Education (Washington state certification preferred or ability to obtain)
- Experience working in an elementary self-contained special education or functional skills setting
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement IEPs and individualized instructional plans
- Strong classroom management skills and experience with adaptive/assistive strategies
- Clear background check and eligibility to work in U.S. schools
- Comfort working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and families
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field (Master's preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and special education law basics
- Skill with differentiated instruction and creating accessible lesson materials
- Behavioral supports and positive behavior intervention strategies
- Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for functional skills
- Progress monitoring, data collection, and using assessment results to guide instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication for collaborating with staff and families
