Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub and assist in cardiovascular surgical procedures including CABG, TAVR, valve repairs, aortic aneurysm repairs and thoracic cases
• Manage and participate in ECMO and Impella cases, ensuring equipment readiness and patient safety
• Collaborate with the perioperative team and interdisciplinary support (Respiratory, Radiology, Pharmacy) to deliver coordinated care
• Maintain accurate patient documentation in EPIC and communicate effectively using SBAR
• Adhere to sterile technique and OR protocols while providing 1:1 patient care during procedures
• Respond to on-call responsibilities reliably, including weekend rotations and potential disaster/storm team activation

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (state of practice or compact) — must be eligible to work in NC
• Minimum 2 years of professional nursing experience with CVOR experience required (per facility hard stop)
• Demonstrated experience with ECMO and Impella devices
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Level I trauma experience preferred
• Proficiency or comfort with EPIC charting and Pyxis medication systems
• Ability to complete a 24-hour unit orientation and float to main OR as needed
• Willingness to join Storm/Hurricane teams and report during catastrophic events if assigned

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Ongoing professional development and specialty CVOR training encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of cardiovascular surgical procedures (CABG, AVR, MVR, TVR, TAVR, aortic repairs)
• Hands-on skills in scrubbing cardiovascular and thoracic surgery cases
• Experience with ECMO and mechanical circulatory support (Impella)
• Familiarity with EPIC for documentation and Pyxis for medication administration
• Effective SBAR communication and teamwork in high-acuity OR settings
• Ability to work 1:1 patient ratios during cases and manage complex intraoperative needs
