Anesthesiologist - Cardiac & Regional
Location: Bismarck, ND
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: One week per month (7 consecutive days) starting April 2026: initially daytime shifts of 5 - 10 hours per day with added on-call coverage after orientation; in-house restricted (C1) call: 16-hour shifts on weekdays and 24-hour shifts on weekends; unrestricted (C2) home call for emergent cardiac callbacks

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert regional anesthesia care, including common peripheral nerve blocks for orthopedics (adductor canal, interscalene, popliteal, supraclavicular).
- Deliver cardiac anesthesia for emergent and scheduled cardiac cases when required.
- Cover labor & delivery anesthesia as part of the service line.
- Medically direct and supervise CRNAs in a medical direction model (no greater than 1:4 CRNA oversight).
- Respond to emergent cardiac callbacks in an unrestricted (home) call model when assigned.
- Collaborate closely with OR staff, nursing, and perioperative teams to ensure safe, efficient patient care.
- Document care thoroughly in EPIC and maintain clear, timely clinical records.
- Support credentialing requirements and provide requested documentation and references promptly.
Qualifications
- MD or DO with completion of an ACGME (or equivalent) anesthesiology residency
- Board certified or board eligible in Anesthesiology (preferred)
- Current state medical license or ability to obtain licensure in North Dakota within credentialing timelines
- Proven experience with regional anesthesia techniques and nerve blocks (adductor, interscalene, popliteal, supraclavicular)
- Experience supervising CRNAs and working within a medical direction model
- Comfort providing labor & delivery and cardiac anesthesia coverage
- Clean professional and credentialing record; CV in chronological order beginning at medical school, no unexplained gaps over 60 days, and three professional references
- Ability to complete and return credentialing/application materials quickly (site requests completed application turned around in 5 days or less)
Education
- MD or DO degree
- Completion of anesthesiology residency
- Board certification or eligibility in Anesthesiology preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in regional nerve block techniques and perioperative regional anesthesia planning
- Experience with cardiac anesthetic care and emergent cardiac case management
- Familiarity with labor & delivery anesthesia workflow and maternal care considerations
- Proficient with EPIC for documentation and charting
- Strong leadership and supervision skills when directing CRNAs and OR teams
- Adaptability across patient ages — pediatric through geriatric populations
- Efficient decision-making for on-call and emergent scenarios
