Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients quickly and accurately to prioritize life-saving care
• Stabilize and manage acute and trauma patients in a high-energy emergency environment
• Administer medications, advanced life support interventions, and monitor patient responses
• Perform focused neurological assessments including NIH Stroke Scale when indicated
• Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary teams
• Complete timely, accurate documentation and handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Participate in specialty competency testing and skills validation to maintain clinical excellence
• Educate patients and families with compassion about treatment plans and follow-up needs

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in the state of practice (Iowa) with license verification
• Current BLS required; PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and NIHSS certifications required
• Experience in emergency nursing or acute care preferred
• Completion of Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Skills Checklist as required
• Ability to pass required health screenings: fit test, Trinity 10-panel drug screen, and immunizations
• Willingness to work nights, every other weekend, and scheduled holidays as part of the team

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong emergency assessment and triage skills for adult and pediatric patients
• Trauma recognition and initial stabilization techniques
• Proficiency in ACLS, PALS and BLS protocols and algorithms
• Skilled in performing NIH Stroke Scale assessments
• Excellent critical thinking, prioritization, and crisis communication
• Team-oriented approach with the ability to coordinate care across disciplines
• Comfort with competency testing and skills validation processes
