Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to patients in the step-down unit
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry and other vital signs to detect changes quickly
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following protocols
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans
• Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate condition changes promptly
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, procedures, and discharge plans
• Document patient care in the electronic health record in a timely and accurate manner
• Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives and uphold safety standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana (or compact license eligible) — required
• Current BLS required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Experience in a step-down, progressive care, or ICU setting preferred (1+ years suggested)
• Strong clinical assessment, telemetry interpretation, and IV medication skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a patient-centered mindset
• Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical skills in progressive care/step-down nursing and telemetry monitoring
• Proficiency with medication administration and IV therapy
• Solid assessment and critical thinking skills for early recognition of patient deterioration
• Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams and patients/families
• Comfort using electronic health records and documenting care accurately
• Familiarity with safety protocols, infection control, and hospital policies
