Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert ICU care to post-open heart and critically ill cardiac patients with compassion and precision
- Continuously monitor hemodynamics, cardiac rhythms and ventilator parameters and act quickly on changes
- Administer medications and titrate drips according to protocols while ensuring accurate documentation
- Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, respiratory therapy and the multidisciplinary team to optimize outcomes
- Perform thorough assessments, develop individualized care plans and communicate changes to patients and families
- Lead and participate in bedside procedures, rapid response and code situations as clinically indicated
- Contribute to unit quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with safety and infection control standards
Qualifications
- Active RN license with Nursys verification
- Experience in ICU nursing with exposure to open heart/cardiac postoperative care
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS and DCI/BVP also required
- Ability to pass Prime competency exams and unit-specific skills checklists
- Current fit test, 10-panel drug screen and required immunizations including COVID-19, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap and influenza
- Negative TB test or positive PPD with negative chest X-ray and a completed physical/health statement
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong cardiac monitoring and ECG interpretation skills
- Proficiency with ventilator management and arterial/central line monitoring
- Skilled in vasoactive medication administration and titration
- Excellent clinical assessment, prioritization and critical thinking
- Clear, compassionate patient and family communication
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate documentation practices
- Teamwork, adaptability and the ability to work effectively in high-acuity settings
