Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients using the nursing process and implement individualized care plans
• Provide direct patient care on Telemetry and Med/Surg units with attention to safety and standards
• Perform and interpret cardiac monitoring and promptly escalate changes in condition
• Communicate effectively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team about clinical changes
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and discharge planning
• Document care accurately and complete required competency and skills checklists
• Float to units of competency as needed to support patient care across the hospital
• Respond quickly and appropriately to emergent patient needs and changes in status

Qualifications

• Current, valid state Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Minimum 1 year acute care hospital experience (telemetry/med-surg experience preferred)
• Current BLS (AHA or Red Cross)
• Current ACLS (AHA or Red Cross)
• NIHSS and DCI/BVP certifications listed as required/preferred
• Meditech EMR experience preferred
• Ability and willingness to float to other units within competency

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and the full nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Direct patient care in acute care, Med/Surg, and telemetry settings
• Strong communication skills with physicians, patients, and families
• Patient and family education and discharge teaching
• Familiarity with Meditech electronic medical records
• Ability to complete required competency exams and skills checklists
