Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, efficient perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing surgery
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and ensure proper instrument handling
• Assist surgeons and anesthesia team during procedures with precision and calm
• Perform preoperative assessments and document relevant findings in the chart
• Monitor patient status intraoperatively and respond quickly to changes
• Coordinate with surgical techs, PACU, and care team to ensure smooth patient flow
• Educate patients and families about perioperative care and postoperative expectations
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse license in good standing, verifiable via Nursys
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required
• Completion of required Prime testing: Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, Prime Specialty Exam
• Ability to pass required health screenings and background checks, including drug screen, TB test, immunizations
• Comfort working in a fast-paced OR environment and collaborating with surgical teams
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient advocacy skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of sterile technique and operating room protocol
• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and case setup
• Proficiency in intraoperative patient monitoring and documentation
• Experience with electronic health records and accurate charting
• Strong teamwork, situational awareness, and crisis management skills
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and maintain composure under pressure
