Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room and sterile field, ensuring all instruments and supplies are ready for each procedure
• Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and anticipating needs during operations
• Maintain strict sterile technique and infection control practices throughout procedures
• Perform instrument counts and document supplies and specimens accurately
• Participate in pre-op and post-op safety checks and surgical time-outs to support patient safety
• Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and techs to ensure smooth case flow and excellent patient care
• Respond professionally and promptly when on-call to support emergent cases

Qualifications

• Active BLS certification (required)
• DCI/BVP certification (required)
• Experience functioning as an OR Scrub Tech or Surgical Technologist (preferred)
• Successful completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist and Prime Specialty Exam prior to start
• Ability to pass Prime Color-blind test and Prime 10-panel drug screen
• Up-to-date immunizations and health clearances: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, TB test (or Positive PPD with negative chest x-ray), Varicella, Tdap, Hepatitis B, Influenza, and a current physical/health statement
• Fit test clearance for respiratory protection

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong understanding of sterile technique, OR instrumentation, and surgical workflows
• Proficient at instrument handling, setup, and turnover procedures
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in high-pressure environments
• Attention to detail for counts, documentation, and safety checks
• Ability to adapt quickly and remain calm during urgent or unexpected situations
