Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform accurate venipuncture and capillary collections with professionalism and care
- Label, process, and transport specimens promptly to maintain sample integrity
- Ensure patient comfort, explain procedures clearly, and obtain informed consent
- Follow infection control practices, PPE use, and proper biohazard disposal
- Complete required competency exams, specialty checklists, and documentation
- Verify patient identity and maintain strict chain-of-custody protocols
- Communicate effectively with nursing and lab teams to expedite patient care
- Maintain accurate records for licensure/certificate verification and health screenings
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomist (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
- DCI/BVP certification or equivalent (required)
- Ability to pass Prime core competency, specialty exams, and Prime skills checklist
- Successful completion of required health screenings and drug testing
- Current license/certificate verification as required by facility
- Strong patient-service orientation and effective communication skills
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program and certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in venipuncture techniques and capillary draws
- Knowledge of specimen handling, labeling, and transport requirements
- Familiarity with infection control, PPE, and OSHA safety standards
- Comfortable using basic lab equipment and electronic documentation systems
- Attention to detail for accurate patient identification and specimen integrity
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced clinical settings
