Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform EKGs accurately and efficiently to support timely cardiac assessment
- Prepare patients with compassion and explain procedures in clear, friendly terms
- Operate and maintain EKG and telemetry equipment, ensuring quality tracings
- Document findings and patient information accurately in the medical record
- Collaborate with nurses and providers to escalate urgent findings
- Complete required competency exams and specialty checklists to maintain standards
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies
Qualifications
- Current basic life support (BLS) certification
- DCI/BVP certification as listed in the order
- Verified license/certification as an EKG technician or relevant credential per facility requirements
- Completion of facility-required competency testing (Prime Core Competencies, Skills Checklist, Specialty Exam)
- Ability to pass background screening, drug screen, fit test, and required immunizations/vaccine checks
- Strong communication skills and a patient-centered attitude
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an EKG technician program or relevant certificate preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in performing 12-lead EKGs and rhythm strip acquisition
- Familiarity with EKG machine operation, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance
- Working knowledge of cardiac rhythms and when to notify clinical staff
- Comfortable obtaining accurate patient histories and preparing patients for testing
- Detail-oriented documentation and time management skills
