Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform EKGs accurately and efficiently to support timely cardiac assessment
• Prepare patients with compassion and explain procedures in clear, friendly terms
• Operate and maintain EKG and telemetry equipment, ensuring quality tracings
• Document findings and patient information accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with nurses and providers to escalate urgent findings
• Complete required competency exams and specialty checklists to maintain standards
• Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies

Qualifications

• Current basic life support (BLS) certification
• DCI/BVP certification as listed in the order
• Verified license/certification as an EKG technician or relevant credential per facility requirements
• Completion of facility-required competency testing (Prime Core Competencies, Skills Checklist, Specialty Exam)
• Ability to pass background screening, drug screen, fit test, and required immunizations/vaccine checks
• Strong communication skills and a patient-centered attitude

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of an EKG technician program or relevant certificate preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in performing 12-lead EKGs and rhythm strip acquisition
• Familiarity with EKG machine operation, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance
• Working knowledge of cardiac rhythms and when to notify clinical staff
• Comfortable obtaining accurate patient histories and preparing patients for testing
• Detail-oriented documentation and time management skills
