Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living to preserve dignity and comfort
- Monitor and report changes in resident condition to the clinical team promptly and clearly
- Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Document care interventions accurately and on time to keep resident records up to date
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families through respectful communication and empathy
- Participate in care team meetings and follow established care plans and facility protocols
Qualifications
- GNA certification required (Geriatric Nursing Assistant or equivalent credential)
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required by the facility
- Prior experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to handle physical demands of resident care and safe transfer techniques
- Strong communication skills and a patient-centered attitude
- Ability to pass facility background checks and any state-required health screenings
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited GNA / nursing assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skill in assisting with activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting
- Familiarity with infection control practices and documentation standards
- Good observational skills to notice subtle changes in residents’ status
- Teamwork and collaboration with nurses, therapists, and support staff
- Time management to prioritize resident needs during shift
