Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, helping them maintain dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and mobility)
- Monitor and record vital signs and any changes in resident condition, reporting concerns promptly
- Document care accurately and timely to support the care team and care plans
- Support mealtime assistance and safe feeding practices for residents who need help
- Communicate clearly and kindly with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary team
- Follow infection control procedures and facility protocols to keep residents safe
- Participate in resident care meetings and contribute observations to care planning
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) in good standing
- Current CPR/BLS certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Prior experience working with older adults preferred; new grads with GNA certification welcome
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening as required by facility
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
- Strong communication skills, patience, and a team-oriented attitude
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved GNA program or equivalent certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and age-related needs
- Skilled in assisting with ADLs and safe patient transfers
- Competent in basic vital sign measurement and documentation
- Knowledge of infection prevention and standard precautions
- Good observational skills to notice changes in condition
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary care team
- Basic charting and record-keeping for shift handoff
