Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate personal care to elderly residents, helping with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Assist with mobility and safe transfers, using proper body mechanics and lift equipment
- Monitor residents' physical and emotional condition and report changes to the nursing team promptly
- Take and record basic vital signs and observe for signs of pain, discomfort, or declining health
- Support meal assistance and hydration, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are respected
- Keep accurate and timely documentation of care activities and resident observations
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and family members to promote individualized care plans
- Create a respectful, engaging environment that supports residents' dignity and independence
Qualifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred; facility may accept equivalent state certification
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Experience working with older adults or in long-term care is a plus
- Ability to pass background checks and meet facility health requirements
- Strong communication skills and a patient, empathetic approach to care
- Reliable, punctual, and able to perform physical aspects of the role
Education
- High school diploma or GED recommended
- Completion of an accredited CNA training program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic knowledge of elder care needs and common geriatric conditions
- Infection control practices and safe hygiene techniques
- Patient lifting, transfer techniques, and safe use of assistive devices
- Observation and reporting of changes in resident status
- Effective teamwork, time management, and documentation skills
- Comfortable supporting activities of daily living with dignity and respect
