Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to geriatric residents, supporting daily living activities
- Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding and mobility with dignity
- Monitor residents’ condition and report changes promptly to nursing staff
- Support safe transfers and ambulation using proper body mechanics
- Document resident care accurately and timely in the facility record
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families, promoting comfort and respect
- Participate in care team huddles to ensure coordinated, person-centered care
Qualifications
- GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) required
- Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Prior experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric environments is a plus
- Strong communication skills and a caring bedside manner
- Ability to pass background checks and required facility onboarding
Education
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of an approved GNA program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and dignity-first caregiving
- Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Basic infection control and hygiene practices
- Accurate documentation and time management
- Teamwork and effective communication with interdisciplinary staff
- Sensitivity to cognitive impairment, dementia, and behavioral changes in older adults
