Physician - Emergency Medicine
Location: Devils Lake, ND
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating 9–12 hour shifts; specific start/end times vary by schedule (not specified). Schedule is varied to provide full ED coverage and may include days, evenings, and weekend coverage as needed. Locum assignment for about 6 months with planned transition to permanent.
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $245 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency medical care in a hospital Level II Trauma Center — stabilize, resuscitate, and treat acute patients
- Perform emergency procedures including intubation, chest tube placement, central line insertion, and procedural sedation
- Manage OB/GYN emergency procedures and deliveries as needed in the ED
- Lead adult and pediatric resuscitations and coordinate multidisciplinary team responses for trauma and critical patients
- Document patient encounters clearly and efficiently in EPIC to support continuity of care
- Triage patients, prioritize care under variable patient volumes, and adapt to 1.4 patients per hour throughput
- Communicate effectively with nursing, ancillary staff, consultants, and patient families to ensure coordinated care
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree with completion of an accredited Emergency Medicine residency
- Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine preferred
- Active or ability to obtain North Dakota medical license (ND) and appropriate DEA registration
- Current ACLS and PALS certifications; ATLS preferred or willing to obtain
- Demonstrated competence in emergency procedures: intubation, chest tubes, central lines, procedural sedation, and OB/GYN emergency procedures
- Experience in adult and pediatric resuscitation and trauma care; comfort working in a Level II Trauma Center environment
- Willingness to follow CommonSpirit travel guidelines and participate in locum-to-perm coverage
Education
- MD or DO from accredited medical school
- Completion of Emergency Medicine residency
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with EPIC electronic medical record workflows
- Strong procedural skills (intubation, chest tube, central lines, procedural sedation)
- Trauma assessment and stabilization expertise for Level II Trauma Center practice
- Skilled in adult and pediatric resuscitation and emergency OB/GYN procedures
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced ED with variable patient volume
- Clear clinical judgment, triage skills, and effective team leadership in emergencies
