Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and their families
• Perform continuous and intermittent fetal heart monitoring and interpret tracings accurately
• Assist with labor management, support normal birth and recognize the need for escalation
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams
• Deliver neonatal resuscitation as needed and initiate immediate newborn care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education clearly and promptly
• Participate in unit quality improvement, safety initiatives, and skills validation

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse license (California or applicable compact privileges preferred)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
• AWHONN and Fetal Heart Monitoring certification required or current competency
• Trinity Skills Checklist completion or equivalent skills validation
• Successful license/certificate verification and required health screenings
• Prior Labor and Delivery clinical experience preferred; strong teamwork and communication skills

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of labor progression, obstetric emergencies, and perinatal care
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and bedside charting
• Skilled in fetal heart monitoring strip interpretation and documentation
• Ability to perform neonatal resuscitation and immediate newborn assessment
• Excellent communication, patient education, and family support abilities
• Critical thinking, rapid assessment, and safe delegation in high-acuity situations
