Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, safe nursing care to assigned patients within scope of practice
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and according to policy
- Perform thorough patient assessments and document findings clearly
- Use NIHSS and stroke assessment tools when appropriate to monitor neurological status
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and carry out patient care plans
- Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge plans
- Maintain accurate license/certification documentation and complete required competency testing
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies at all times
Qualifications
- Current and unencumbered LPN license for the state of Iowa (or eligible for verification)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification — current
- Familiarity with NIHSS or willingness to be trained and demonstrate competency
- Successful completion of facility-required health screenings and checks (drug screen, immunizations, fit test, etc.)
- Strong clinical judgment, dependable attendance, and effective communication skills
- Comfort working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing (LPN/LVN) program
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and monitoring
- Medication administration and documentation
- Stroke assessment basics (NIHSS familiarity)
- Basic wound care and infection prevention
- Proven ability to follow policies, checklists, and competency validations
- Clear, compassionate patient and family communication
- Time management and prioritization in a fast-paced care environment
