Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to elderly residents, assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding)
- Monitor residents’ conditions and promptly report changes to nursing staff to ensure safety
- Assist with mobility and transfers, using safe techniques to prevent injury
- Support mealtime delivery and follow dietary instructions to promote resident wellness
- Maintain accurate documentation of care and resident observations
- Follow infection control protocols and facility policies to protect residents and staff
- Build trusting relationships with residents and their families to enhance quality of life
Qualifications
- Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification required or equivalent state certification
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Ability to pass required background check and drug screening
- Comfort working overnight hours and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team
- Previous long-term care or geriatric experience preferred but new grads with certification are welcome
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited GNA program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of elder care best practices and ADL assistance
- Basic vital signs measurement and documentation
- Infection control and safe body mechanics for transfers
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with residents, families, and staff
- Reliability, attention to detail, and a calm approach during night shift responsibilities
