Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) with respect and dignity
- Support mobility and safe transfers, using proper body mechanics to protect residents and yourself
- Monitor and report changes in residents' condition to the nursing team promptly
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to residents and families
- Document care and observations accurately and timely in resident records
- Follow infection control and safety protocols to maintain a clean, safe environment
- Collaborate with nurses and multidisciplinary staff to ensure individualized care plans are carried out
Qualifications
- Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required depending on facility policy
- Demonstrated experience working with older adults (clinical or volunteer experience welcomed)
- Ability to pass background check and meet facility immunization requirements
- Strong communication skills and a caring, patient-centered approach
- Ability to perform physical tasks related to resident care (standing, lifting, assisting)
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved GNA program or state-recognized training
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skilled in assisting with ADLs and safe resident transfers
- Competent in basic infection control practices and documentation
- Good observational skills to notice subtle changes in condition
- Team-oriented attitude and clear, respectful communication with residents and families
- Time management to balance caseload and prioritize resident needs
