Shift Type: Day shift with shared on-call coverage (includes weekday, weekend and 24-hour rotations); occasional weekend work required; call schedule shared equitably among providers and may include nights and holiday coverage as part of call rotation

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive and problem-focused history and physical exams to diagnose and manage orthopedic conditions
- Assist in surgery as a first assist and perform deep and superficial tissue closures under surgeon delegation
- Manage Emergency Department consults and serve as primary orthopedic call for hospital patients
- Perform inpatient rounding, dictate discharge summaries, and develop/implement treatment plans
- Order and review diagnostic tests and labs, interpret results, and adjust care plans accordingly
- Prescribe medications, orthotics and other treatments as allowed by state scope of practice
- Perform a range of procedures including digital blocks, regional anesthesia, joint and bursa aspirations, fracture reductions, casting and splinting, wound management, and minor outpatient surgical procedures
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans and community resources
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounding, quality and safety initiatives, and documentation/coding improvements
- Contribute to research, database management and quality assurance activities to advance care
Qualifications
- Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) credential with ability to practice in Oregon (or eligibility to obtain state licensure)
- Experience in orthopedic surgery, surgical assisting, and acute care preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply
- Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record for documentation and order entry
- Comfort managing ED consults, inpatient rounding and shared on-call responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to perform procedural skills such as digital blocks, fracture reduction, casting/splinting and wound management
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with surgeons, staff and patients
- Ability to reside within the immediate local area (local residency required or relocation may be necessary)

Education
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- PA certification (PA-C) or eligibility for certification; Oregon state licensure or ability to obtain licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in orthopedic patient management and surgical assistance
- Skilled in EMR documentation (Epic) and electronic order entry
- Competent in diagnostic interpretation: x-ray, CT, MRI and basic diagnostic studies
- Procedural skills: injections, aspirations, needle biopsy, percutaneous pinning, k-wire and hardware removal
- Wound care and minor outpatient surgical procedures
- Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment and triage skills in emergent situations
- Excellent patient education and multidisciplinary communication abilities
- Familiarity with inpatient documentation, progress and discharge summaries
