Roles & Responsibilities

• Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
• Provide professional consultations and recommendations to the interdisciplinary care team to support safe discharge planning
• Perform instrumental and clinical swallowing evaluations (including FEES) and interpret results to guide treatment
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and document progress clearly and promptly
• Operate and maintain clinical equipment used in evaluation and treatment, and adhere to infection control procedures
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers to optimize patient outcomes in the acute care setting

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist (required)
• Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) required
• Current BLS/HCP CPR certification required
• Completion of a FEES course required; if not completed at hire, must be completed within six months
• Preferred: Minimum 1 year SLP experience in an acute care setting
• Preferred: Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP training
• Experience with adult swallowing, communication, and cognitive evaluation and treatment

Education

• Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with ASHA certification
• FEES course completion required (within 6 months of hire if not already completed)
• BLS/HCP CPR certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Assessment and treatment of swallowing disorders, including instrumental assessments (FEES)
• Assessment and treatment of speech and language disorders and cognitive-communication disorders
• Acute care clinical skills and diagnostic consultation in an inpatient setting
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with vital signs and basic monitoring equipment used in acute care
