Roles & Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain an organization-wide risk management program that protects patients and the organization
• Lead the patient safety program, providing oversight and direction for process improvements to reduce errors and adverse outcomes
• Plan and lead Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA) to drive systemic improvements
• Investigate, evaluate, and report adverse incidents in compliance with state and federal regulations
• Coordinate disclosure and follow-up with patients, families, and care teams after adverse events
• Facilitate Patient Safety Rounds and deliver risk management and patient safety education across departments
• Support accreditation and quality efforts including chart audits, clinical reviews, and data support
• Collaborate closely with Medical Directors, the CMO, and corporate counsel on quality of care and peer review issues
• Serve as a mentor and resource to staff, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement
• Perform other duties as assigned and provide cross-coverage with the Quality Management team

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted, active Registered Nursing license in Alaska (agency staff must have active Alaska license; direct hire must have applied before the start date)
• CPHRM certification required within two (2) years
• Clinical competency required within 3 months and ongoing revalidation every 3 years
• Minimum 3 years experience monitoring risk management, patient safety, quality, and regulatory requirements and coordinating process changes
• Demonstrated leadership in facilitating and leading cross-functional teams and working collaboratively across groups

Education

• Active Registered Nursing license in Alaska
• CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management) required within two years
• Clinical competency validation within 3 months and every 3 years

Knowledge & Skills

• Risk management program development and implementation
• Patient safety principles and event investigation
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• Regulatory compliance knowledge: DNV, TJC, CMS, CARF and relevant AK statutes
• Accreditation support, chart audits, and clinical review processes
• Data analysis to support quality and safety initiatives
• Education and training delivery, facilitation, and mentoring
• Strong communication, collaboration, and cross-functional leadership skills
