Roles & Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, high-quality Progressive Care (PCU) nursing for hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients from admission through discharge
Perform skilled assessments and intervene promptly for deteriorating conditions using critical care judgment
Operate and manage advanced medical equipment including ventilators, arterial lines, chest tubes, and multiple IV pumps
Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret EKGs to detect and respond to arrhythmias and other cardiac events
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members — providers, charge nurses, case management — to coordinate effective patient care and discharge planning
Serve as a clinical leader and preceptor, guiding RNs, LPNs, CNAs and ancillary staff to deliver consistent, safe care
Document care accurately and communicate clearly with patients and families, providing emotional and cultural support throughout the patient stay

Qualifications

Current Montana RN licensure required
BLS, ACLS required; PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
Experience practicing in an advanced Medical/Surgical unit with recent Progressive Care or Critical Care experience required
EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
Demonstrated ability to manage central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, NG tubes, continuous bladder irrigation and short-term ventilatory support

Education

Degree from a Nursing Program

Knowledge & Skills

Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical nursing expertise
Telemetry monitoring and cardiac EKG interpretation
Ventilator management (invasive and noninvasive) and advanced respiratory support
IV/vascular access, multiple IV pump management and central line care
Critical care assessment and early recognition of patient deterioration
Familiarity with peri-procedural care (pre/post PCI, pacemaker care, revascularization)
Sepsis recognition and management, renal failure/dialysis-related care
