Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver skilled nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute care setting, taking ownership of patient outcomes
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, triage, and emergency interventions with calm, confident judgment
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNA/Tech staff while maintaining accountability for care delivered
- Document clinical care accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record and transcribe physician orders as required
- Participate in developing and updating care plans, policies, and nursing procedure manuals to improve patient services
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure a safe environment for patients, families, and staff
- Manage supplies and equipment levels; report needs and ensure readiness for emergent situations
- Provide education and mentorship to department personnel and contribute to ongoing staff development
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state (agency staff must have an active Alaska license; direct hires must apply for Alaska license before start date)
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required (may be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually)
- TNCC preferred and required for ED nurses
- Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency requirements as outlined (timelines in job posting)
- Experience in acute care, emergency department, or long-term care preferred but not required
- Ability to make independent clinical decisions and communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of nursing/medical practices, hospital and long-term care regulations, and standards of care
- Proven skills in patient assessment, medication administration, and emergency response/triage
- Comfort with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
- Ability to supervise, delegate, and collaborate with clinical and non-clinical staff
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Commitment to infection control practices and patient safety
