Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor adult med-surgical patients continuously using telemetry and escalate changes in acuity to the Charge RN, Manager, Rapid Response or Provider
• Interpret telemetry rhythms and intervene appropriately to maintain patient safety
• Administer medications and IV therapies including IV antibiotics, and manage PEG/tube feedings when required
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary team members (CNAs, HUCs, providers) to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care
• Document patient care accurately and timely in the EMR (Cerner) and participate in shift huddles
• Support unit flow by assisting with admissions, discharges and transfers and by floating to other med-surg areas as needed
• Model teamwork and a helpful attitude—assist CNAs and fellow nurses to ensure quality outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (NC or compact) — required
• Minimum 2+ years of clinical nursing experience (telemetry/med-surg experience strongly preferred)
• Current BLS certification — required
• ACLS certification — preferred
• Comfortable with telemetry rhythm interpretation and med-surg level patient assessment
• Experience with IV therapy, IV antibiotics, and PEG/tube feedings preferred
• Able to communicate clearly, manage time well, and arrive on-time for scheduled shifts

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry rhythm interpretation and monitoring
• Med-surgical patient assessment and critical thinking
• IV therapy and administration of IV antibiotics
• PEG/tube feeding management and tube feed skills
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR or similar documentation systems
• Strong verbal communication and teamwork skills
• Time management, on-time attendance and the ability to prioritize in a busy unit
