Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based postpartum care to mothers and newborns in a mother-baby unit
• Perform thorough newborn assessments and routine newborn care including circumcisions when needed
• Monitor maternal and neonatal status closely, recognizing and escalating signs of complications
• Safely administer and monitor medications and infusions, including care of patients on magnesium sulfate post-delivery
• Support breastfeeding and provide discharge teaching and education for new families
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in the Cerner electronic medical record
• Collaborate with L&D, NICU and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and safe transfers
• Serve as a team player and preceptor—teach, mentor, and contribute to a positive unit culture

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) — current and active nursing license (permanent/travel licensure rules apply)
• Minimum 2+ years of clinical nursing experience (postpartum/mother-baby experience strongly preferred)
• BLS and NRP required
• STABLE certification preferred
• Comfortable using Cerner EMR and common unit equipment (Alaris pumps, bilirubin lights/blankets)
• Experience caring for mothers on magnesium sulfate post-delivery is a plus
• Team-oriented with strong teaching and communication skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Postpartum and newborn assessment and care
• Newborn procedures and routine neonatal care
• Monitoring and management of mothers on magnesium sulfate
• Familiarity with STABLE protocols and newborn stabilization principles
• Documentation and workflow in Cerner electronic medical record
• Skill with Alaris infusion pumps and bilirubin phototherapy equipment
• Ability to manage typical patient ratios (approximately 1:3-4 couplets) and prioritize care
