Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting) with dignity and compassion
• Support safe mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Observe and record residents’ conditions — vital signs, changes in behavior, and skin integrity — accurately and promptly
• Provide meaningful companionship and engage residents in social activities to enhance quality of life
• Maintain a clean, safe environment by following infection control and safety protocols
• Communicate clearly with the interdisciplinary care team and family members about resident needs
• Document care and incidents thoroughly in the electronic or paper records used by the facility

Qualifications

• Current GNA certification (required)
• CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required depending on facility)
• Previous experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatrics is a plus
• Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings
• Strong interpersonal skills and a patient, compassionate bedside manner
• Basic proficiency with charting and following care plans

Education

• High school diploma or GED and GNA certification (or state equivalent)

Knowledge & Skills

• Working knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Familiarity with safe transfer techniques and fall prevention strategies
• Understanding of infection control practices and PPE use
• Good observational skills for changes in condition and behavior
• Clear communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with nurses and therapists
• Time management to prioritize resident needs during busy shifts
