Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to geriatric residents, helping maintain dignity and comfort
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting
- Monitor and record vital signs and behavioral changes accurately and promptly
- Support safe mobility and fall-prevention strategies, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Document resident care and communicate changes to nurses and the care team to ensure continuity
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families through respectful, clear communication
- Maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment for residents, following infection control practices
Qualifications
- Valid GNA or equivalent geriatric nursing assistant certification
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- State registration or ability to obtain required Maryland credentials for GNA work
- Recent experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or geriatric settings is preferred
- Ability to pass background checks, drug screening and required pre-employment health checks
- Strong interpersonal skills and a patient-centered approach to care
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a state-approved GNA/Geriatric Nursing Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Comfortable assisting with ADLs and basic resident care
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Ability to take and document vital signs, intake/output and simple assessments
- Good communication skills with residents, families and multidisciplinary teams
- Basic charting and documentation skills; familiarity with electronic health records is a plus
- Teamwork, time management and a proactive approach to resident safety
