Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality orthopedic and surgical nursing care to post-op and inpatient ortho patients
- Perform thorough assessments, neurovascular checks, and pain management interventions
- Administer medications, IV therapies, and blood products according to policy and best practice
- Collaborate with surgeons, physical therapists, and multidisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
- Educate patients and families on post-op care, mobility precautions, and discharge planning
- Document patient status and interventions accurately and timely in the medical record
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to improve patient outcomes
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state or ability to obtain promptly
- Nursys license verification required
- Minimum 2 years experience in orthopedic/surgical or medical-surgical specialty
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support); ACLS or other certifications as required by facility
- Work history/resume with no gaps greater than 60 days
- Completed skills checklist, references, and certification card loaded to profile
- Badge-appropriate photo and all demographic info uploaded to profile
- No RTO as noted in requisition
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong ortho-surgical clinical skills and comfort with post-operative protocols
- Proficiency in medical-surgical nursing practices and acute care assessment
- Wound care, drain management, and dressing changes
- Pain management strategies and multimodal analgesia familiarity
- IV insertion/maintenance, medication administration, and documentation
- Effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Prioritization, time management, and critical thinking in a fast-paced environment
