Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for PCU and neuro stepdown patients, including post-TPA and complex neuro diagnoses
• Monitor telemetry continuously and interpret dysrhythmias to guide timely interventions
• Administer and manage IV therapies, blood products, central and peripheral lines, PICCs and arterial lines with precision
• Perform phlebotomy, port access/management, and PICC care as needed
• Manage respiratory supports including High Flow Nasal Cannula and oxygen therapies
• Titrate cardiac drips and follow heparin protocols safely and accurately
• Administer critical neuro-specific treatments such as TNK and assist with lumbar drain management
• Document care thoroughly in EPIC and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, pharmacy, social work) to optimize outcomes
• Float to different units within the OSU organization as needed while maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Ohio (or compact/multi-state as applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of PCU or Med-Surg experience with Neuro patient experience — neuro skills are a hard stop
• BLS required
• EPIC charting experience required
• ACLS and NIHSS preferred
• Demonstrated competency with IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Comfort with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and titrating cardiac drips
• Willingness to float to other units and work rotating holidays and weekends

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
• Neuro stepdown care: post-TPA, CVA, intracranial bleed, craniotomy and TBI management
• IV therapy, starting/maintaining IVs, phlebotomy, and PICC/central line care
• Arterial line management and blood product administration
• High Flow Nasal Cannula and other respiratory support modalities
• Feeding tube care and management
• Familiarity with TNK administration and lumbar drain considerations
• Proficient EPIC documentation and interdisciplinary communication
• Isolation precautions, wound care/Wound VAC experience
