Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and expand a comprehensive thoracic surgery program to meet community need and volume growth
- Perform a full range of general thoracic surgical procedures (benign and malignant) using open, minimally invasive, and robotic techniques
- Utilize the DaVinci Xi robotic platform for robotic-assisted thoracic cases when appropriate
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary tumor board discussions to optimize individualized patient care
- Collaborate closely with pulmonary/critical care physicians, APPs, and other specialists for coordinated inpatient and outpatient management
- Provide consultative hospital services and participate in scheduled call rotations
- Document patient care accurately and efficiently in EPIC and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
- Mentor and supervise APPs and other team members, supporting team-based, patient-centered care
- Engage with community and referral sources to grow the program and ensure high-quality access to care
Qualifications
- MD or DO with completion of a Thoracic Surgery fellowship
- Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Thoracic Surgery — BE candidates must obtain certification within 2 years
- Experience or training in robotic thoracic surgery (DaVinci Xi) preferred; new fellowship graduates will be considered
- Comfortable providing inpatient, outpatient and clinic care with surgical responsibilities
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with APPs, pulmonary/critical care, and multidisciplinary teams
- Eligible to work in the U.S.; note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position
- Not open to locum/locum-to-perm, 1099 candidates, or providers with lapsed board certification
- Willingness to live within a one-hour commute of Columbus, OH and commit to the group practice schedule
Education
- MD or DO
- Completion of Thoracic Surgery fellowship
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Thoracic Surgery
Knowledge & Skills
- Robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (DaVinci Xi) techniques and troubleshooting
- General thoracic operative skills for both benign and malignant disease
- Inpatient and outpatient clinical management and perioperative care
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical record documentation
- Experience in multidisciplinary tumor board workflow and case presentation
- Consultative hospital service skills and inpatient rounding
- Program development, leadership, and quality improvement experience
- Strong communication, teaching, and collaborative skills with APPs and specialist teams
