Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, compassionate hands-on care to geriatric residents, starting each shift with dignity and respect
- Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
- Monitor resident condition and report changes promptly to nursing staff to ensure safe, high-quality care
- Help with safe transfers and positioning to prevent falls and maintain comfort
- Support mealtime assistance and ensure residents stay nourished and hydrated
- Document care activities accurately and communicate effectively during shift handoffs
- Build trusting relationships with residents and families, offering empathy and patience during the night shift
Qualifications
- Current certification as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) — required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- State GNA registration or eligibility per Maryland regulations
- Background check clearance and ability to pass any required health screenings
- Comfort working nights and supporting a diverse resident population with compassion
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow care plans and direction from licensed nursing staff
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completion of a state-approved GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Safe resident handling and transfer techniques
- Basic infection control practices and ability to follow facility protocols
- Accurate documentation and observational skills to notice subtle changes in residents
- Teamwork mindset and the ability to communicate clearly with nurses and interdisciplinary staff
- Time management for completing bedside care, documentation, and nightly routines
