Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, compassionate hands-on care to geriatric residents, starting each shift with dignity and respect
• Assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
• Monitor resident condition and report changes promptly to nursing staff to ensure safe, high-quality care
• Help with safe transfers and positioning to prevent falls and maintain comfort
• Support mealtime assistance and ensure residents stay nourished and hydrated
• Document care activities accurately and communicate effectively during shift handoffs
• Build trusting relationships with residents and families, offering empathy and patience during the night shift

Qualifications

• Current certification as a Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) — required
• Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
• State GNA registration or eligibility per Maryland regulations
• Background check clearance and ability to pass any required health screenings
• Comfort working nights and supporting a diverse resident population with compassion
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow care plans and direction from licensed nursing staff

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Completion of a state-approved GNA training program

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
• Safe resident handling and transfer techniques
• Basic infection control practices and ability to follow facility protocols
• Accurate documentation and observational skills to notice subtle changes in residents
• Teamwork mindset and the ability to communicate clearly with nurses and interdisciplinary staff
• Time management for completing bedside care, documentation, and nightly routines
