Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert respiratory assessment, treatment and evaluation for patients with respiratory insufficiencies, asthma, pneumonia and emphysema
- Manage mechanical ventilation and advanced airway support using devices such as Servo I, Hamilton, V60 and Astral ventilators
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and interpret results to guide patient care
- Deliver noninvasive support including CPAP and BiPAP and titrate settings based on patient response
- Administer and supervise aerosol therapy and nebulizer treatments safely and effectively
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient-centered respiratory plans
- Document care accurately in the EMR (Meditech) and contribute to quality improvement efforts on the unit
Qualifications
- Current RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential required
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care hospital RRT experience (must-have)
- Current BLS, ACLS and NRP certifications required
- Comfortable and experienced with mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory equipment
- Strong team player with critical thinking skills and a patient-care focus
- Meditech EMR experience preferred; trauma experience is a plus
Education
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with mechanical ventilation management and ventilator modes (Servo I, Hamilton, V60, Astral)
- Skilled in ABG sampling and interpretation to inform treatment decisions
- Experienced with noninvasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP) and aerosol/nebulizer therapies
- Familiarity with respiratory procedures, CPT and working in a fast-paced acute care environment
- Comfortable using Meditech EMR for documentation and care coordination
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary teams
